your website has undoubtebly been a great help, i have a 2day old duckling caled daisy and she is a little treasure, shes defenitly female i can tell by her markings the black lines across her eyes day 1 was yesterday. i work as a lifeguard at the local pool and we have a sun terrace with a few nests on. we never plan on takin ducklings but theres always one or two that get left in the nest or the egg after the mother has left for the lake. helping her hatch has made the bond between us very strong, she wont leave my side, shel follow me everywhere, shehad her first swim and her second and has quite a good technique already, she was drinking and already eating soggy breadcrumbs that i sprinkled in while she swam. although it did look a little like she was playing with the food rather than eating it she was shaking it in her beak. im going to try the hard boiled egg yolk with her today see how she gets on. if you return an email to me i may not recieve it as my account is playing up so i cant access them. but if you would like to see her prpgress you can add me to facebook. loretta mcluvvin kirton. thank you for your help and good look with future hatchings, hope to hear from you soon xxx

Hello! I am glad that I found your page! My boyfriend and I stumbled into raising ducklings 2 years ago. Our neighbor had a mallard nest in her bushes and one morning I woke up and found the mother dead in our yard! When I got home from work I saw a Mallard in the same spot she was in. Sadly enough it was the male! He was laying by her! I cried my eyes out! I couldn't just leave the five eggs alone! So my boyfriend and I (no clue what we were doing!) Started looking up online how to hatch eggs. We made a incubator out of a box and we used a desklamp for light. Needless to say 4 out of the 5 eggs hatched and were healthy! It was so amazing and inspiring that now we have been ordering eggs and keeping the tradition going. I was very proud of our accomplishment because at least we gave the little ones a chance! We built a pen in the yard and when they get big enough we let them wander and put up a kiddie pool for them. When they are ready they leave! WE have seven eggs this year and our first two hatched on May 5, 2010. Today we had 2 more hatch and I think the other 3 are not far behind! It is a wonderful thing to do and it gives me great pleasure! Thank you for letting me share my story!!

Just a quick note to say a big thanks for all the information and insight on your site. With your good advice we have hatched six of ten of our Pekin duck eggs and now have seriously funky ducklings. The whole experience was wonderful. Your site is so informative and answered all my uncertainties. Many thanks again. dave G

im so glad i was able to find this site its going to help me so much. A friend of mine had a mother duck in her yard sitting on a nest, the egss had hatched to days ago and the hen had just left with all of her ducklings but one. She was so worried she had called my mother and my mother had asked me if i was willing to raise it. I now have the adorable little thing in my care, but im slightly worried, because even though its two days old now (i just brought it home today) its still not walking, itll try to but it just ends up on his/her back and go back to sleep. Im pretty sure it was the last one to hatch, but im still a little concerned.

Thanks for the info and photos. I have 3 abandoned call ducks, 12 days old. One is fine, one was bullied by Mum and has bald patches and my little Daffy has very little down at all and is half the size of the others. He's very perky though so we are hoping he will make it!

I stumbled on your page while researching how to raise babies. I had a duck that laid her eggs under an upside down bathtub and today I noticed 4 to 5 broken eggs and I could see a few babies under her.. I am looking for tips on how to help mamma duck take care of them. I will get a paint tray tomorrow and put it under the bath tub and see what happens, as well as put a ramp in and out of Billy's swimming pool they use for swimming. Thank you for the wonderful information. Roseane and Billy. (Billy is my 4 year old son who is into raising Chickens, Ducks, Geese and Turkeys and his horse)

Hey! Just wanted to say how helpful your sight has been. Its nice to learn and read up from a "real" person instead of a generic website. I am awaiting my ducklings arrival...they should be here in about a week! Thanks again!

Hi! I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading all of your duck info! We have raised chickens for years and I love each one of them. About 3 weeks ago, I brought home 4 baby ducks and I have laughed myself silly watching them! My husband was completely right about them being VERY messy, but they are very much worth the trouble! Thank you so much for publishing the info and your experiences! I have found it to be both entertaining and helpful!

I have been hatching ducklings for many years at the childrens centre where I worked till my retirement last year.I have found your " handy hints for raising ducklings" very useful and referred to them many times. Now someone else has taken over hatching the ducklings and I Know she will find your "hints" invaluable. So, thank you so much for your help, it has been really appreciated.

Hi Caroline, thank you so much for taking the time to write all this helpful information. I am a first timer and have 4 (from 6) Indian Runners in the incubator that have reached the pipping stage.. Getting a bit worried that they have been at this stage for just over 24 hours I checked all my (expensive) incubation and hatching books. None of them gave any where near the advice you have. I now know that I need to be patient, wait another day and leave the lid on (as long as humidity is still okay). They are cheeping away and I cant wait to meet them when they finally break through. I will save this site to my `favourites'. Thank you x

thankyou very much for all yor great advice, i have hens & always a broody one, she takes all the incubation & hatching worry away. but ive always wanted ducks, and have a chance for a dozen runner duck eggs, so ive ordered an incubator as my broody hen is already sitting so i cant use her. your hands on & experienced advice has now been saved to my favorites so i can refer to it easily when needed. thankyou viv xxx
