Woow, you are the best person ever. I just accidently came upon a living duck egg while buying sum duck eggs. But this one seemed to be alive, which was a huge surprise. You've helped me very well, tho i dnt hav an incubator at all, i just keep the duckling in a show box with water high enough for not drowning. As for food, i hav no clue wat to do, we are handing in the duck into the humane society tomoro, and it just hatched about 2hrs ago.

Dear Caroline, Thank you for the time you have clearly spent in putting your site, handy hints for raising ducklings, together. I found it the most accessible of everything I read and, like you, I was almost going to give up in hatching some eggs until I read your 'hot tips'. I have two silver appleyards called Harold and Maude and over the last year ( I had them as ducklings) they have gradually taken over the garden and rule the doves, chickens and dogs with a rod of iron. I love them to bits and they cheer up every day - even though they have learnt how to use the dog flap and hence raid the kitchen - and the thought of ducklings this summer has got the neighbours and friends very excited. I plan to start the big incubation 1 June 09! I will let you know how I get on! Once again, many thanks and continued enjoyment with your 'team'. Best wishes, Anne

Just came home from work to find that our mallards just hatched nine ducklings!! We're happy grandparents! She had been laying on them for about 4 1/2 weeks and were wondering if/when they'd hatch. Learned a lot from your website as to what to feed them when, as we had no idea. Thank you, Crystal

I loved your site - I have the sweetest duckling who was left in our garden a week ago. we have fed it worms chopped up, starter crumb and water. In only a week we have come to adore it and worry about it. Imprinting happened before we knew about it and it frets if its not with us so I am trying to keep it seperate from us someof the time. Is there any advice in terms of amusing it. we let it swim several times a day and walk about. We are worried about predators outside but hope when it is bigger we can make it a little home until its big enough to go off on its own. As its only one we dont want it to be destressed or disturbed so any suggestions will be hugely appreciated. I hope you are feeling OK and thank you for such a lovely site for all of us to find. Bets wishes Clare

always loved ducks difficult to say why ,but i suppose you could compare them to your best friend or what you would like your best friend to be like, but something draws me to them like no other creature, they always seem happy, confident, silly, unasuming, clean, they just seem to enjoy life, maybe we could learn a lot from them, i have a large pond that used to have koi carp in it but the heron got them all this year so instead of investing in koi i am going to get ducks and not bother about keeping the water crystal clear, really looking forward to it, haven't a clue what i 'm doing though any help will be appreciated thanks

hi!u did a really good job on this site!very helpful, I got 2 ducks from a week ago.one died i don't know why,but the other one is doing good. she is so cute,i think she's getting lonely cause she follows me around the house ha ha she even follows me to the bathroom. And that makes me to love her even more, but the thing is she sleeps a LOT!and i mean A LOT!that is normal right? is it OK to give her some fruits?i took her to the park twice and she is trying to taste almost everything that is on the ground, and how often does she need fresh air and sun?

I have a great knowledge of chickens but am now trying ducks since yesterday as well. Your site is very helpful, thanks very much. Best of luck with your health. I had 2 prolapsed discs in 91, an thyroidectomoy in 02, an arthroscopy in 04 and open heart surgery in 07(in Hawaii on my 30 wedding anniversary). Never let it get you down, I don't. Thanks again, Ken
