Wodgers story:- Having tried a selection of eggs under a totally useless bantam and losing the lot as she kept breaking them, we finally splashed out on an incubator to try to salvage the dregs. We eventually hatched one rather gorgeous muscovy (as named above) and he immediately took over the house and out lives, even sleeping on Steves tummy in our bed!!. Unfortunately he died very suddenly at 2 days old and we were totally distraught. Not wanting to give up, we collected some eggs from one of our adult ducks who was laying but not sitting and put these in the incubator. We could find no usable information on what should be happening or when , or how we should be dealing with it, until we found your website. It was a total inspiration to us, with all the helpful hints for ordinary amateurs like ourselves. We are now the proud parents of 6 gorgeous ducklings, with one more about to hatch, and 12 more in the incubator. We are hooked and obsessed with our babies now and cant wait for the rest to hatch. We have to book the bathroom as the ducklings have priority on the bath!!!. Thank you so much. Its all your fault!!!!!! Joy and Steve

Thankyou so much for your website. When I first found out about my 3 week old duckling, i only had 1 day to prepare. As soon as i found your website i felt happy and i knew i could do it. i was regularly checking it to see any hints i'd missed and also any signs of my duckling's gender. he turned out to be a boy, and i raised him from 3 weeks to about 4 months to a strong drake. on christmas day he flew for the first time (taught by my chicken i think!) into the pond in my garden and on boxing day he flew away, probably back to the bedworth slough where he was rescued from. it was an experience i'll never forget, and i doubt it would have been so successful if it wasn't for your website. thanks a lot. Hi, again fab website. I made an entry a week ago to say i was incubating eggs above the water in my tropical fish tank. I now have a gorgeous 1 week old spoilt duckling!!!! could not have done it without this site. I bought the egg from a fridge in a farm shop and glad I did or it could have been someone's fried egg!!!

Hi Caroline, Your website is a real inspiration! I didn't realise you had so many talents! (You kept them quiet didn't you!) I love your artwork especially and will show this to my daughter, as she is also a keen artist (for a 7 year old, at least!) Of course I love your Baby Signing section too! What a wonderful website! With love and best wishes Adele xxx

Great website! very informative. 3 weeks ago, I bought 3 duck eggs at a farm food shop. I placed them in a tray in my tropical fish tank (let some water out first!) so there is humidity and the temperature is 37.5 degrees. Have been candling and on day 21 they are at the stage they should be. Have been moving for days. I so hope it works out, I can't believe they are growing into ducklings. I have a pond, a dog, fish, guinea pigs and a parrot, so I'm potty about animals (42 years old!!!) they are nurtured lovingly as eggs so will be as ducks. Thanks again

All of your information on raising ducks and the hatching and the feeding and the brooder and just every little detail from getting the egss to them gettin older has helped me so much!!!! Just a few weeks ago i was outside and found a duck nest, the mom was there and over the next couple days i would just casualy walk by since she laid the eggs in a bush. but after awhile she wasnt there anymore and my parents found a couple of eggs outside of the nest and the mom was gone. So i convinced my parents to let me take the eggs in so we got an incubator and my parents thought that the eggs werent going to hatvh....but 2 weeks later they did!!! i had 8 eggs all together but only 5 of them lived. they are the cutest little things ever! so now they are a week old and i dont think i would have been able to take care of them properly! so just leaving a big thanks for your greatly detailed information on ducks!

I enjoy all wildlife and feed anything that comes into my yard. Today (5/9/2006), a momma duck that also visited me in 2005, introduced me to her new 8-duckling brood. They stopped by for a little bite before moving on. It was as job and motivated me to search the internet for more information on ducklings. I've immensely enjoyed reading your website. Thank you for sharing your valuable information and treating your wildlife with such respect.

I have enjoyed your site so much! I have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and have had to learn to enjoy life while sitting still as well. I also have my darling ducks! Aren't they the most wonderful inspiration? My wintertime accidental ducks are a cross between a big Blue Sweedish (a darling boy) and a teeny tiny Apricot Call Duck. What a surprise it was to find her setting a nest of 11 eggs after searching for her high and low for days on end. In 4 degree's weather outside I knew the new babies would die quickly, so I brought them into my bathroom and hatched them myself. I even slept in the bathroom when they began to pip and we had long conversations while I had to help them hatch. I would NEVER recommend helping, but these babies badly needed help. After 12 hours they were still stuck solidly inside their hard, hard shells. I ended up with only 4 survivors but I think we did a very good job considering the circumstances. They are the most darling little seethearts. They love to cuddle close and one of them (the female?) honks like a goose! What wonderful, great fun for anyone! Not just for those who are sick and staying still most of the time. They are hard work and we love them ridiculously and, yes, we do feel foolish occasionally, but they are DELIGHTFUL!!

Thank you , this site is very helpful. I'm 13 years old and a duck mom by accident. I live on a lake and an egg was left alone by my house. It is hatching today.
