Sheldon's Diary

week 15

Day 99

Monday 18th August

Caroline visited us several times today. We particularly enjoyed it when she did some weeding. (She hasn't done gardening like that for months and probably won't again for a while as her hips seized up afterwards!)

As soon as she started, we headed over to the flower bed and started to forage for slugs.

Later, she held the hose over us so we could catch the water in our beaks and preen. She also filled a washing up bowl for us, which we duly squabbled over despite the fact that we have two big ponds nearby!

Happy Family!

(I'm in the centre with my head buried in the grass!)

Tuesday 19th August

I am one hundred days old today! Caroline let us out and fed us from her hands before taking individual photos of everyone to celebrate how far we've come! (Of course, the babies are only 65 days old but they were included in the celebrations.)

We spent the rest of the day foraging and quacking a lot! We ran out of food this afternoon but Caroline came to the rescue and gave us loads more.

Tonight, Liz was round here to see Caroline so she came to put us to bed. (We behaved ourselves this time!)

Well, this is where my daily diaries will end! One hundred days seems a neat point to stop. I will be writing a weekly update for now and, of course, I will write occasional extra diary entries when there is big duck news, so this won't be the last you hear from me!

Sunday 24th August

I'm back! I know, you've hardly had time to miss me. Well, as my weekly diaries will be on Sundays, I thought I'd make a start today.

Caroline has enjoyed our company this week as we have been particularly friendly! I usually have a daily cuddle (or several) but the surprise of the week was my sister, BQ. She has never been one for much human contact but, after Caroline picked her up a few times one day for photos, she now likes it so much she tries to shuffle her way onto Caroline's hand when she is feeding us and loves sitting there looking all around.

As you know, I've been moulting for quite a while now. Well, this week some of my brothers and sisters joined in. In particular two of the boys, Bruiser and Marge. They are turning paler by the day as they lose their brown tummy feathers. There's a debate at the moment about whether they are going to end up silver or white. I expect by next week we will know!
